Ottery is a well-established residential area and is the preferred home of many successful businesses in Cape Town.
If you require easy access to the major highways, the Southern Suburbs (especially Plumstead, Wynberg, and Kenilworth), Cape Flats and even the South Peninsula, Ottery is the ideal location. It is situated on the eastern side of the M5 motorway which gives you quick and easy access onto the M5 motorway via Ottery Road on the Southern side and Wetton Road on the Northern side. The M5 freeway gives one direct access to both the N1 and N2 highways leading to and from the city. With the Cape Town harbour and container terminal only 19 kilometers away, Ottery’s close proximity to the N2 also makes it very accessible to the Cape Town International Airport which is about 18 kolimeters away.
Ottery is extremely well-serviced by public transport providers and it goes right back to its inception. The suburb was established in the early part of the 1900s, thanks to the railway line, which had initially been a private line but was soon opened up to the public. Today, the train and many of the local buses and taxis pass right through Ottery, making it accessible and easy to get around with a variety of options available to employees getting to and from work. While Golden Arrow busses pass the Ottery Centre as part of the Wynberg to Khayelitsha route, minibus taxis pass through Ottery via Ottery Road, en route to Wynberg from Lotus River and Mitchells Plain respectively. The Ottery Railway Station and the Wetton Railway Station are also within easy walking distance to all businesses located in this industrial node.
The recently refurbished Ottery Centre is another popular shopping centre in the area. It is one of the oldest shopping centres in the Southern Suburbs and plays host to a number of shops including a Pick n Pay Hypermarket with Pick n Pay liquor store, Spur, Nando’s, many clothing shops and a post office. The centre offers customers free secure parking. The popular super-store Makro also has a branch in Ottery, one of only three in the Western Cape. It is conveniently located on the corner of Ottery and Old Standfontein Road and attracts a large number of visitors to the area.
We can compare this to one other development close by and the last unit sold for R1 150 000. Due to these interesting factors, this would be a big demand on a newly constructed development for investors and rental.
The PropWatch is used to follow the property cycle that circulates over a 7 to 10 year period and is based on the relationship between interest rates, supply and demand, affordability/finance availability and the cost of renting.
